History of the Rural Development Conference (RDC)
The Rural Development Conference (RDC) was launched in 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand, as part of Tomorrow People Organization’s boutique series of academic and professional events. From the beginning, its vision has been to create a space where rural development, agriculture, infrastructure, education and community empowerment can meet in an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural setting.
Over the years, RDC has welcomed participants from a wide range of countries and institutions: universities and research centers, development agencies, NGOs, government bodies, farmers’ organizations and community initiatives. The conference has been hosted in Bangkok and has consistently kept its focus on meaningful dialogue, practical impact and genuine networking.
Each edition builds on the previous ones. Many participants return to continue collaborations, present follow-up research and welcome new colleagues into the RDC community. The series has remained intentionally small in scale, preserving its boutique character, while continuously evolving its themes to reflect current and emerging rural development challenges.
